Why Safety Matters on TON
The TON ecosystem is growing fast, and unfortunately, scammers are keeping pace. Fake trading bots, phishing links, and rug pulls are common. This guide helps you identify threats and protect your assets.
Types of TON Bot Scams
Fake Bot Clones
Scammers create bots with names similar to popular ones (e.g., "CryptonSuperb0t" instead of "CryptonSuperbot"). These clone bots steal your deposited funds.
How to protect yourself:- ā¢Always use official links from verified sources
- ā¢Check the bot's Telegram handle carefully
- ā¢Look for verified badges or official channel announcements
Phishing Bots
These bots ask you to "verify" your wallet by entering your seed phrase. No legitimate bot will ever ask for your seed phrase.
Rule: NEVER enter your seed phrase into any bot, website, or form.Honeypot Tokens
Tokens that let you buy but prevent you from selling. The contract is coded to only allow the developer to sell.
How to protect yourself:- ā¢Use bots with honeypot detection (Crypton, Maestro)
- ā¢Check the contract on TONScan before buying
- ā¢Try a small test sell before buying more
Rug Pulls
Developers remove liquidity after the token pumps, leaving buyers unable to sell.
How to protect yourself:- ā¢Check if liquidity is locked
- ā¢Verify contract ownership is renounced
- ā¢Be wary of tokens with small liquidity pools
Safety Checklist
Before using ANY TON trading bot:
- ā¢Is the bot non-custodial? (Can you export your private keys?)
- ā¢Has the bot's code been audited?
- ā¢Is the team publicly known (doxxed)?
- ā¢Does the bot have an active development history?
- ā¢Is there a large, active community?
- ā¢Can you find independent reviews?
- ā¢Does the bot have a track record of at least 6 months?
Creating a Safe Trading Wallet
- Use a dedicated wallet ā Never trade from your main wallet
- Only deposit what you'll trade ā Keep the rest in a hardware wallet
- Save your seed phrase offline ā Write it on paper, store securely
- Enable all security features ā 2FA, withdrawal limits if available
- Test with small amounts first ā Send 0.1 TON before depositing more
What to Do If You've Been Scammed
- Stop all transactions ā Don't send more funds
- Export your keys ā Move remaining funds to a new wallet immediately
- Report the scam ā Report to Telegram (@notoscam), TON Foundation
- Document everything ā Screenshots, transaction hashes, bot handles
- Warn others ā Post in community groups to prevent more victims
